On social media, a picture purporting to be of Morant holding the weapon quickly gained popularity.
The Grizzlies barred Morant from taking part in any team activities.
According to NBA spokesman Mike Bass, “We are aware of the social media post involving Ja Morant and are gathering more information.”
Over the course of the season, Morant has drawn attention due to many claims accusing him of misbehaviour. It all reached a boiling point earlier this year when he was seen brandishing a gun in a Denver bar, despite the fact that he was never charged in any of the events.
In March, he received an eight-game suspension and booked himself into a stress management facility. Following the Grizzlies’ exit from the playoffs, Morant admitted the off-court incidents might have caused a distracted squad.
Morant told ESPN last month, “I’ve simply got to be better with my decision-making. “That’s basically it. Off-court matters largely had an impact on our organization. Simply more discipline is required. It was one of a few problems that surfaced.
The Indiana Pacers asserted that a red laser was pointed at the team from an SUV that was transporting Morant following an argument between Morant’s friends and the Pacers in January, which the Pacers mistook for a pistol. After looking into the incident, the NBA concluded that “no one threatened others with a weapon.”
According to a police report from March, Morant allegedly pulled out a gun after assaulting a youngster the previous summer.
In a pickup basketball game at Morant’s house, The Washington Post reported that Morant allegedly punched the adolescent “12 to 13 times” in the head. The complaint claims that following the argument, Morant went into his home and came out holding a revolver in his waist.
In April, Morant remarked, “I feel like my is more off the court and on the court – just being disciplined both sides. ‘Off the court, better decision-making. being considerably more confined on the court. As the team’s leader, it essentially begins with me. So, I can approach any circumstance knowing that my teammates would do the same. I simply need to improve in that area.
