Prior to being let go earlier this year, Abby Grossberg hired elite talent for “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and on March 20 she complained to a federal court in New York.
According to the lawsuit, “Ms. Grossberg was treated significantly worse than her male counterparts, even when those men were less qualified than her,” including being isolated, overworked, devalued, denied chances for advancement, and generally treated poorly.
These claims have been refuted by Fox News. In a statement to Insider last week, a Fox News official said that the corporation will “vigorously defend Fox against all of her legal claims, which have no merit.”
The spokesman claimed in the statement that “FOX News Media engaged an independent outside counsel to immediately investigate the concerns raised by Ms. Grossberg, which were made following a critical performance review.”
Monday’s request for response from Insider was not immediately answered by a Fox News spokesman or Grossberg’s attorneys. With more than 3 million viewers each night, Carlson was both Fox News’ and cable television’s most well-liked news host.
Fox News provided just a brief explanation for Carlson’s departure on Monday. Only “for his service” was expressed in the thank you, and it was announced that a new cast of temporary hosts will take over. The Los Angeles Times was informed by sources that Carlson’s departure is probably connected to the Grossberg case.
It’s unclear if or how Grossberg’s lawsuit will change as a result of Carlson’s departure from Fox News. Other Fox officials are also named in the case, and Grossberg’s attorneys told Insider last week that they were “as committed as ever” to taking legal action. A representative for Grossberg stated in a statement sent to The New York Times on Monday that their legal team will be taking Carlson’s deposition “in the very near term.”
Just a few days before to Carlson’s resignation, Dominion Voting Systems and Fox News reached a $787.5 million settlement in their legal dispute. In addition, Grossberg claims that Fox News’ legal team instructed her to provide false evidence in her deposition for the Dominion lawsuit.
