Judge Lorraine Murphy threw the book at a violent felon who ran away to Nebraska after being released on electronic monitoring. Camron King, 21, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon and escaping from electronic monitoring.
Murphy hit him with a 16-year prison sentence. 14 years for carjacking a woman at gunpoint in a supermarket parking lot and nearly four years ago and two years for escape. He will serve the 2 years after he finishes the carjacking sentence.
“He lasted about a month,” Assistant State’s Attorney James Murphy said during an earlier court hearing. “They were hoping to find the defendant there. They were half correct.
“They found the GPS bracelet on the ground.
“It appeared to have been sawed off with a metal cutting tool.”
A different judge had set King’s bail at $30,000 with electronic monitoring at a hearing on July 28, 2019. King went home with the bracelet on September 14, 2020.
He was gone a month later.
Sadly, his felonious ways followed him to Nebraska.
King was arrested in Nebraska while he was on the lam from his Chicago case for felony assault by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic battery.
Nebraska authorities turned King over to Cook County officials after he completed his sentences in their state.

He and his alleged accomplice, Isaiah Jackson, 21, are accused of confronting a woman as she loaded groceries into her car at Jewel Osco, 424 West Division, on July 23, 2019.
The carjackers got into the woman’s Audi to drive away but fled on foot when a security guard intervened, according to a police report.
Chicago police released surveillance images of two suspects shortly after the carjacking. King turned himself in to Matteson police, and CPD officers arrested Jackson in Avondale.
