“We need to keep violent people in jail”: DC Police Chief Overrules Dems: “The average homicide suspect has been arrested 11 times prior to them committing a homicide”

The head of Washington, D.C.’s police department overruled the woke city lawmakers and said the way to stop crime is to keep the violent people in jail because the ‘average homicide suspect has been arrested 11 times prior to them committing’ murder.

Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee said when asked what he can do toi= stop a rising murder rate in the city. He said: “What we’ve got to do if we really want to see homicides go down is keep bad guys with guns in jail.

“Because when they are in jail, they can’t be in communities shooting people. So when people talk about what we’re gonna do different or what we should do different or what we need to do different, that’s the thing that we need to do different.

“Right now we think we have the three individuals who are responsible.

“Obviously, the investigation, because there are so many cases linked, is ongoing, so there could be other information that could be revealed over the course of the investigation. 

“But right now, we feel very confident about the three that we have in custody.

“We need to keep violent people in jail. 

“Right now, the average homicide suspect has been arrested 11 times prior to them committing a homicide. 

“That is a problem.”

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said:

“We know that this neighborhood has been particularly hard hit with burglaries and other crimes in the recent days and weeks.

“While we know that violent crime is down since last year, the amount of violent crime remains very unsettling to neighbors.

“When MPD has deployed targeted, multiagency task forces to specific areas of the city, we have seen how these teams can work to drive down crime.

“Now, we are working with the community to expand those efforts. 

“As we expand, I remain committed to ensuring MPD has the officers the Chief needs to make these types of strategic deployments and have a strong presence in our community,” she said.

Asked at a press conference if he expected the DC Council to change its approach to crime, Police Department Chief Robert Contee responded, “What we gotta do if we really want to see homicides go down is keep bad guys with guns in jail.”https://t.co/DVCQ1Yy0hx
