A representative for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had received an invitation to King Charles’ coronation; however, they choose not to comment on whether they will accept or not.
With the publication of Harry’s explosive memoir Invictus, which contained allegations that his older brother, Prince William, had used physical violence against him, there has been conjecture over whether Harry and Markle will be invited to the three-day royal event.
Only a day after the book’s publication last week, it was made public that King Charles had kicked Harry and Markle out of their home in the United Kingdom, Frogmore Cottage. A representative for the Sussexes said that they “received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation” despite the growing breach between them and the Royal Family.
The spokesman continued, “An immediate decision on whether or not The Duke and Duchess would attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.
King Charles will be crowned on May 6, which also happens to be the day of Archie, Harry and Markle’s son, who turns 4 years old.
The Sussexes moved to California in 2020, two years after their marriage, and gave up their positions as working members of the royal family. In a number of media, including a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, a Netflix docuseries in 2022, and the most recent, Spare, the couple have been open about their unpleasant interactions with the Royal Family and the British press.
Prince Harry declined to declare whether he would accept an invitation to his father’s coronation during a press interview for the book.
He declared, “The door is always open. “They now have the initiative. There are many topics that need to be covered, therefore I sincerely hope they’ll agree to have a conversation.
It is unknown what involvement the pair, if any, would play in the crowning festivities, such as whether they would march in the procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey or stand on the balcony of the palace to welcome crowds as the day came to a close.
Harry and Markle were not allowed to stand with other family members on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to greet fans at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2022.
