Multiple authorities are responding to a massive train derailment in Van Buren Township Michigan. According to the Van Buren Township Police Department, none of the train cars containing hazardous materials were compromised in the incident.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) released the following statement Thursday:
“EGLE is aware of the train derailment in Van Buren Township, Wayne County, where initial reports indicate no threat to the public from the derailment. EGLE personnel are on their way to the scene to assist in assessing the situation.”
At least 6 Railcars are off the track however emergency Crews on-scene state that there is no hazmat situation and that currently there is no danger to the public.

A different Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, on Feb. 3. That train was filled with several hazardous chemical compounds.
Van Buren Township Public Safety said:
“Avoid the area of Huron River Drive, between Martinsville and Haggerty due to a railroad accident investigation.
“Haggerty road will be closed South of I-94 , as well as Huron River Drive West of Haggerty.
“Roads are expected to be re-opened to traffic this afternoon, and should not effect evening commutes.
“There is no evidence of exposed hazardous materials, as no train cars containing hazardous materials were compromised.
“There are no injuries reported.
