A Florida politician was busted with 10 grams of cocaine stuffed in his sock after he was arrested for DUI. Police attempted to pull over Palm Bay City Councilman Pete Filiberto around 11:50 p.m. after he was spotted speeding on a motorcycle.
Filiberto acknowledged the flashing lights behind him but tried to flee the scene and sped away on his motorcycle. He didn’t get far. The man with two prior DWI busts lost control of his bike during trying to make a U-turn and fell over.
The cops caught him and detected the odor of alcohol on his breath. The councilman refused to take a breath test and was taken into custody. Filiberto is the vice chairman of the Brevard County Planning and Zoning Board.
When he got to jail authorities ordered him to remove his shoes.
They discovered Filiberto was hiding 1o grams of cocaine in his sock and dropped the hammer.
He was charged with cocaine possession, reckless driving, and DUI, among other charges.
According to Fox35:
According to the arrest report, Filiberto was riding his motorcycle south on Lipscomb Street NE at a high rate of speed and then ran two stop signs while driving through a nearby neighborhood.
The officer said Filiberto was traveling “well above the 25mph posted speed limit,” according to the report.
The officer flipped on his lights and siren to pull Filiberto over. The report said Filiberto appeared to attempt a U-turn, but lost control of his bike and fell over.
The councilman refused to speak with the officer and refused to conduct a standardized field sobriety test.
However, based on the totality of the circumstances, including the smell of alcohol on his breath, he was arrested, police said.
Police said Filiberto does not have the proper motorcycle endorsement, and that his license was suspended in September 2022.
According to Space Coast Daily:
An officer did a traffic stop on Filiberto after observing him riding his motorcycle at a high rate of speed near Huckleberry Street and Lipscomb Streets.
Filiberto attempted to make a U-turn to elude the officer and fell over.
The probable cause affidavit said an officer pulled up and noticed the smell of alcohol on Filiberto’s breath and took him into custody and he then refused the field sobriety test.
Filiberto was taken to Palm Bay Hospital for medical clearance and later booked into the Brevard County Jail and then released on bond.
The arrest marks the council member’s third on DUI charges, according to court records. https://t.co/jM6a37vLJZ
