On Thursday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attacked Republicans for their hypocrisy while standing up for Rep. Ilhan Omar, another member of her “squad.” Because of her divisive prior remarks regarding Israel, Republicans voted to kick Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. In an impassioned floor speech, Ocasio-Cortez claimed that Republicans have benefited by performing badly.
She directed her rant toward Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, saying, “Don’t tell me this is about a condemnation of anti-Semitic slurs, when you have a member of the Republican caucus who has talked about Jewish space lasers, and then elevated her to some of the top committee assignments in this body.” “This is about discriminating against American women of color.”
Greene propagated baseless and anti-Semitic conspiracies in 2018 suggesting that powerful Jewish bankers and politicians were behind the “Camp Fire” inferno in California. She later apologized. She now sits on prominent panels on oversight and homeland security after losing her committee appointments during the previous Congress due to her remarks.

Republicans were also criticized by Ocasio-Cortez for giving Rep. Paul Gosar “one of the most prominent committee assignments in this Congress” despite the fact that she said he had threatened her life.
When Gosar released a modified anime movie depicting him killing Ocasio-Cortes, the House decided in 2021 to censure him and remove him from his committee assignments. This Congress, he is serving on the oversight and natural resources committees.

Omar was kicked off the foreign affairs committee on a party-line vote in the House, with the exception of Ohio Republican Rep. Dave Joyce, who cast a “present” vote.
The targeting of and hatred towards Muslim Americans, according to Ocasio-Cortez of New York, has been a “disgusting legacy” of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The vote against Omar, a Muslim, was described by her as “an extension of that heritage.”
Except for the bigotry and encouragement of violence against women of color in this body, she claimed, “there is nothing consistent with the Republican Party’s continuous attack.”
