Hollywood star Jeremy Renner got out of his snowplow near his home on a mountain pass to help a stranded motorist on New Year’s Day when he was run over by his own vehicle said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve.
Renner has blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries. He is in the intensive care unit. The accident happened near his home on Mt. Rose Highway, which is about 25 minutes from downtown Reno.
Schieve said: “He was helping someone stranded in the snow. He is always helping others. He’s always calling and saying, ‘Hey Mayor, what do you need?’ There are a few times he’ll post about what he has done or donated toys, but most of it you would never know he is doing.”
Renner’s family issued a statement that said:
“Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families.
“They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”
“According to a neighbor, the plowing machine — called a Snowcat — accidentally ran over one of Jeremy’s legs, and he was losing a lot of blood from the injury.
“We’re told another neighbor, who’s a doctor, was able to put a tourniquet on his leg until paramedics arrived.”
