The Five House Republicans (Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Ralph Norman (R-NC), Matt Rosendale (R-MT), and Bob Good (R-VA)) are being told by the “conservative” New York Post that they need to sit down, shut up, and accept Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as their leader.
Each member has maintained their stance that they will not compromise their convictions for McCarthy throughout the past few weeks. The leader of the Republican Party has been the subject of derision over the last year for being caught on tape telling individuals whatever it is they want to hear, regardless of whether or not it is in line with statements that he has made in the past that have been recorded. McCarthy’s criticism of Trump for the attack that took place on January 6 and his subsequent behavior of groveling at Mar-a-Lago in an attempt to receive assistance has been the source of the greatest amount of ridicule.
The Post is pleading for the leaders of the Republican Party to quit battling for their deeply held convictions and instead reach a compromise, which is something that the named members of the GOP are not typically renowned for doing. The Washington Post referred to the individuals in question as “saboteurs” and demanded that “the response is not to double down on Trump-esque candidates such as Biggs and Gaetz.”
The article then on to make fun of Biggs, in particular, for his inability to accomplish anything to win anyone over to his point of view.
The editorial board made fun of the Arizona congressman by stating, “Moreover, Biggs does not command a majority,” in their commentary. It would be a stretch to say that he commands enough people to fill a station wagon.
The editors argue that delaying the election of a speaker will prevent the Republicans from passing any legislation in the House of Representatives. Given that the Democrats currently hold both the White House and the Senate, it is impossible for the Republicans to achieve any of their goals without the assistance of the Democrats.
“A vote against McCarthy might as well be a vote for the dreadful policies that Biden and his colleagues have been enforcing on the United States of America ever since Obama took office. That is a gamble that neither Republicans nor the country can afford to take “according to the Post.
Some members of the tea party Republican faction, however, are of the opinion that McCarthy might, in the end, strike a deal with anyone, including President Joe Biden, if doing so would result in McCarthy gaining some form of authority.
