NBC News just said NBC the House will end up with Republicans holding 219 congressional seats to the Democrats’ 216 and that Nancy Pelosi’s reign as Speaker is officially over.
Hallie Jackson delivered the bad news to the Dem Party before warning the GOP will have such a slim margin that: “It’s just gonna be messier, right? Because it means with less wiggle room, basically, a smaller group of members could have more power.”
President Joe Biden seemed resigned to losing the House saying earlier: “I don’t think there’s enough votes to codify abortion rights unless something happens unusual in the House.
“I think we’re going to get very close in the House. But I don’t think we’re going to make it.”

According to Fox News, Kevin McCarthy will face a tough challenge to be Speaker:
The hard line Freedom Caucus is poised to offer an “alternative” to Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy as House speaker.
“McCarthy doesn’t have 218 and there will be an alternative challenger,” a spokesman for Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., told Fox News Digital.
Biggs, who chaired the Freedom Caucus until earlier this year, is reportedly mulling a run against McCarthy in either the internal House Republican conference vote set for Tuesday or on the floor in January. The fire-brand GOP lawmakers’ staff did not clarify if he would be a candidate.

There is “this top-down driven program here in Washington, D.C., where leadership calls all the shots, and you just vote on the floor not having been involved in any of the conversations.”
