Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (N.Y.), the head of House Democrats’ campaign arm, just suffered a stunning loss and conceded his race on Wednesday against state Assemblyman Mike Lawler.
This is a huge blow to the Dem Party because he was in charge of helping other House Democrats win. With each GOP win control of the house seems more certain but it ain’t over yet.
Maloney told reporters today at a press conference that he called Lawler “to congratulate him on a good win.” “I don’t like to lose, but my opponent won this race and he won it fair and square. And that means something. So I’m going to step aside.
“Democrats stood our ground and we believe Nov. 8, 2022, will be a signature date in American political history.”

Maloney sounded resigned to lose the House too saying:
“We gave it our all, and we beat the spread.”

NEWS: Sean Patrick Maloney, the chairman of the DCCC, just called Republican Mike Lawler to concede his Lower Hudson Valley race.
This is a stinging loss for Democrats, and Maloney in particular, on a night when the party otherwise faired better than expected.
