According to a back and forth between a Senate Republican and a Biden Administration official, there is no way Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas knew about the woman who was chosen to head the Disinformation Governance Board taking positions that later turned out to be completely wrong.
Earlier this month, Mayorkas announced that the board would be headed by Nina Jankowicz, who in 2020 argued that reports about Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop were Russian disinformation. The contents of the laptop have since been verified.
Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana sought to find out what the Department of Homeland Security knew when it appointed Jankowicz to head the new disinformation board.
“Ms. Jankowicz is an inspiration to me.” “I’ve been in awe of her for a long time,” Kennedy said. Inquiringly, “Who selected her?”
The Department of Homeland Security chose Ms. Jankowicz, said Mayorkas.
“Who at the department picked her?” Kennedy asked. “Senator, we don’t discuss our internal hiring processes,” Mayorkas replied. “I am the secretary of homeland security and ultimately I am responsible.”

No, it wasn’t known at the time that she had said that Mr. Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation.” Kennedy had a question.
“I didn’t know that.” Our internal hiring process is not discussed. In the end, “as secretary of Homeland Security, I am ultimately responsible for all of the decisions made by the department,” Mayorkas said.
Do you think the Department of Justice knew that Ms. Jankowicz had vouched for the veracity of the Steele dossier when it selected her??” Kennedy inquired.
The senator, I’d like to repeat what I’ve just said and add one more fact. Firstly, we do not discuss the company’s internal hiring practices. In addition, Mayorkas said, “I was not aware of that fact.”
“Fourth, it is my understanding that Ms. Jankowicz is a subject matter expert in the field in which she will be working on behalf of the department,” said John Kelly, secretary of homeland security.

According to The Washington Times, Mayorkas referred to the board as a “working group” and stated that the group’s primary goal was to ensure that DHS adhered to the principles of free speech.
There is no operational capacity or authority in the working group What we need to do, he told Kennedy, is to make sure that there are policies and standards in place to protect the rights that you are interested in.
According to the New York Post, Mayorkas received some unsolicited advice from GOP senator, who said Mayorkas should track down the person who actually hired Jankowicz. After that, Kennedy said, “I’d sack him right there and then.”
