A new Harvard-Harris poll has former President Trump destroying VP Kamala Harris in a hypothetical 2024 Presidential match-up.
Per the Washington Examiner “If Harris were to be at the top of the ticket, 49% of voters said they would support Trump, while 38% said they would back Harris. In a 2020 rematch, Trump prevails with 47% over Biden’s 41%. Twelve percent said they were undecided. Biden’s job approval came in at 39% in the poll.”
The report adds:
Harris would have better luck as the Democratic presidential nominee if she were to compete against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Harris received 40% support, a slim advantage over DeSantis’s 38%.
Should Trump decide to run, he is well positioned to take the GOP nomination. The poll found 59% of Republican voters picking Trump. Former Vice President Mike Pence and DeSantis are statistically tied in second place at 11% and 10%, respectively. DeSantis beats Pence 28% to 24% if Trump declines to run.
“I would not give a lot of weight to trial heats right now other than they reflect the weakness of Biden and the administration right now,” said Mark Penn, the co-director of the survey. “That Trump beats them both by a wide margin suggests most Republican nominees once known fully by the public would beat them unless they are able to pivot out of the current nadir in their numbers.”
