Sometimes I come across very cool things online, and I just have to stop whatever I am doing and share them with you.
This is one of those things.
It’s the armor of an 1815 soldier’s armor who fought at Waterloo. But what makes it so cool and interesting is the massive cannonball hole in the armor.
I love that this is a video, so you can really get the all-around view of this thing.
You can see the entry and exit wound and holy cow is it savage.
The caption on this clip is a tad bizarre, claiming the soldier was “wounded.”
Well, by the looks of those holes, I’d say he was more than just “wounded,” but regardless, it’s an amazing piece of history.
Here’s some info on the battle of Waterloo from Wikipedia:
The Battle of Waterloo was fought on Sunday, 18 June 1815, near Waterloo in Belgium, part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands at the time. A French army under the command of Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated by two of the armies of the Seventh Coalition, a British-led coalition consisting of units from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Hanover, Brunswick, and Nassau, under the command of the Duke of Wellington, referred to by many authors as the Anglo-allied army or Wellington’s army, and a Prussian army under the command of Field Marshal von Blücher, referred to also as Blücher’s army. The battle marked the end of the Napoleonic Wars
You can watch the video below:
Seeing something like that really brings the battle to life in your minds-eye, and makes you wonder who this soldier was, and what he was like before they killed him on the battlefield with the deadliest weapon of that time: the cannon.
