America has seen concerning rises in crime throughout the country in recent years. From the protests and riots in 2020 to the violent crime spikes in 2021, many cities have experienced major surges.
Law enforcement struggles to keep up, and many authorities are sounding the alarm: there isn’t enough resources to combat the disturbing trend.
Now, it seems the Biden administration is prepared to help — and many Democrat-run states are going to benefit.
In response to a “dramatic rise in violent crime,” Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) plans to hand out grant money to cities hit hardest by the crime wave.
And according to the statistics, most of those cities are Democrat run, and the states they’re in are predominantly controlled by leftist politicians. This includes Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles.
And according to a December report from the DOJ (via CNN), these cities are now in line to receive a big chunk of federal change.
Republicans are quick to point out that in fact, the areas slated to receive the most aid are indeed Democrat-dominated. Many of the cities mentioned are controlled by liberal politicians.
The publication pointed to a December 20 release from the DOJ announcing that hundreds of communities and organizations are eligible or are being awarded grant awards from a $1.6 billion pot to support programs that will supposedly reduce violent crime.
Attorney General Merrick Garland said this “latest round of funding will deliver critical public safety resources” and will help agencies and organizations “confront these serious challenges.”
It’s also important to note that many of the cities in question – L.A., Minneapolis, NYC, San Francisco, etc. – all proposed cutting police department budgets.
The result has been spiraling crime, and now they’re looking to receive millions in federal aid. For example, Seattle has already received $771,127 and Chicago has hauled in over $2.4 million. Chicago has registered over 800 homicides in 2021 alone.
As for the rest of the money, according to the report:
Philadelphia is eligible for $1,499,662; Baltimore can receive $1,364,052; New York City is eligible for $4,095,916 and Los Angeles may collect $2,692,835.
Additionally, San Francisco is eligible for $460,341, and Milwaukee County in Wisconsin could get up to $922,735.
In 2021, it was less about riots and protesting and more about rising criminal activity. And while many of America’s biggest cities are Democrat strongholds, they’re also high on the violent crime chart.
Republicans point toward far-left policies like “defund the police” as culprits, and taxpayers are now going to feel the crunch.
Though the government should attempt to help cities where crime really is starting to spiral out of control, America won’t forget the impact of a full year of anti-law enforcement rhetoric.
That’s precisely what many believe is a primary cause of these crime spikes, and it does indeed seem centered in Democrat-led cities and states.
