The deadly “Rust” scandal is getting more mysterious by the day. We were told early on that Alec Baldwin was handed a supposedly “cold” gun by the assistant director David Halls. From there, the whole story goes south. Court documents from witnesses suing Balwin and others claim that Alec, who was not supposed to fire a gun during his scene, pointed the gun toward his Cinematographer and pulled the trigger.
Alec then changed that story during an ABC interview and said he never pulled the trigger.
The assistant director David Halls, who is also being sued, backed up Alec’s new story.
And now, Mr. Halls is also changing things up.
His attorney claimed that Mr. Halls never handed the gun to Alec Baldwin.
Huh?
Mr. Halls has declined to work with investigators, but a judge is now forcing him to.
The New York Post reported that the “Rust” assistant director who handed Alec Baldwin the prop gun that fired on a film set in October, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, must sit down for an interview with state investigators, a judge ruled.
New Mexico District Court Judge Bryan Biedscheid on Friday granted a request from the state’s Occupational Health and Safety Bureau of the Environment Department to issue David Halls a subpoena, according to local outlets.
Investigators have previously detailed in search warrants how Halls “grabbed” the gun from a cart and then yelled “cold gun” to indicate it was safe as he handed it to the low-budget Western’s lead actor on Oct. 21 on set Santa Fe.
The gun “was fired by the actor Alec Baldwin,” killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza, the affidavits stated.
Halls did not believe the gun was loaded, according to investigators.
In an interview with Fox News, Halls’ attorney, Lisa Torraco denied that her client had handed the gun to Baldwin.
“This idea my client grabbed the gun and handed it to Baldwin absolutely did not happen,” she said, before dodging follow-up questions from host Martha MacCallum.
“The armorer brought the weapon in,” Torraco said. “The armorer opens the firearm… [Halls] didn’t load it.”
So, now, we’re left wondering who actually handed the gun to Alec. What is going on?
Is this another “story change” to avoid culpability in the civil lawsuit, or an effort to weasel out of possible criminal charges?
Either way, that poor woman’s death has been turned into a circus by a few people who appear to be twisting the truth into a pretzel to save their own butts.
