OKLAHOMA – Oklahoma’s new Adjunct Brigadier General Thomas Mancino has led the way in fighting COVID-19 shot mandates for United States Military members.
As one of his first acts in the position, General Mancino updated the Oklahoma National Guard’s (ONG) COVID-19 policy on Thursday. Under his order, no ONG member will be required to receive a jab against COVID-19.
Further, he stated that “no negative administrative or legal action will be taken” against any who decline a shot.
Lieutenant Colonel Geoff Legler, spokesman for ONG, said, “The clarified policy on COVID vaccinations for Oklahoma Army and Air National Guardsmen reflects the governor’s ability to assert his command authority over the men and women of the Oklahoma National Guard while they are within the state’s borders.
“The clarification will allow our unvaccinated Guardsmen to continue to serve in Oklahoma without any negative repercussion, but it does not provide any protection should they need to attend any military school or training activity run by an active duty component or the Department of Defense.”

An executive order had been issued by Governor Kevin Stitt in October that said the Oklahoma Military Department would not be requiring state employees to receive a COVID-19 shot. Lt. Col. Legler said that General Mancino’s memo was simply further clarification on Stitt’s order as Governor, not a change in policy.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby has since said that they have the authority to order a vaccination mandate as part of the medical readiness for soldiers who deploy across state lines or who participate in drill weekends.
“Whether or not a governor forces that under his or her own authority is another matter,” Kirby said, “but [it] in no way relieves members of the National Guard from compliance with medical readiness requirements established by the secretary of defense and the secretaries of the military departments.”
Governor Stitt and General Mancino disagree.
However, Mancino also said during a townhall meeting with ONG soldiers that, should the Pentagon seek to act legally on the matter, he would follow a “vaccination” mandate on the Guard.
Red Voice Media would like to make a point of clarification on why we do not refer to any shot related to COVID-19 as a “vaccine.” According to the CDC, the definition of a vaccine necessitates that said vaccine have a lasting effect of at least one year in preventing the contraction of the virus or disease it’s intended to fight. Because all of the COVID-19 shots thus far available have barely offered six months of protection, and even then not absolute, Red Voice Media has made the decision hereafter to no longer refer to the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson substances as vaccinations.
