The Hollywood star Rockmond Dunbar has been forced to quit the television show “9-1-1” after refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Daily Mail reported that Dunbar, who played Michael Grant on the show since it premiered back in 2018, was written off the program on Monday night’s episode due to his vaccination status. He had tried to get a religious exemption and a medical exemption in order to keep filming the show, but his requests were denied.
“I applied for religious and medical accommodations pursuant to the law and unfortunately was denied by my employer,” Dunbar, 48, told Variety. “My sincerely held beliefs and private medical history are very intimate and personal aspects of my life that I do not publicly discuss and have no desire to start now.”
“I’ve been an actor in this business for 30 years, but my greatest roles are as a husband and father to our four small children,” he continued. “As a man that walks in faith, I look forward to what the future holds. I have enjoyed the last five seasons with this wonderful cast and crew and will cherish the time I’ve been blessed to spend with this series and wish everyone involved nothing but the best.”
Fox and 20th Television also confirmed that Dunbar was leaving “9-1-1,” tweeting last night, “We’re gonna miss you, Michael! #911onFox” from the show’s official account.

“We take the health and safety of all of our employees very seriously and have implemented a mandatory vaccination confirmation process for those working in Zone A on our productions,” 20th Television said in a statement. “In order to ensure a safer workplace for all, Zone A personnel who do not confirm their vaccination status and do not meet the criteria for exemption will not be eligible to work.”
Deadline reported back in July that mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations would be allowed on film and TV sets. SAG-AFTRA presidential candidate Fran Drescher released a statement at the time saying that she supports these protocols.
“While vaccinations are a crucial component towards scaling back the Covid-19 virus, they are not 100% effective in preventing us from catching Covid or spreading it,” Drescher said. “This is why hospital protocols continue to require masks, and for all patients to be tested for Covid, regardless of whether the patient was vaccinated prior to admittance.”
“We should all share the goal of eliminating Covid in this country,” she added. “Until we do, following the additional SAG-AFTRA safety protocols – such as mask-wearing, testing, and physical distancing – is essential, especially since mask-wearing continues to be either imposed or encouraged in many areas while some are experiencing outbreaks and increased cases.”
It’s sad to see yet another American lose his job simply because he wants to be free to make his own decision about the COVID-19 vaccine.
Red Voice Media would like to make a point of clarification on why we do not refer to any shot related to COVID-19 as a “vaccine.” According to the CDC, the definition of a vaccine necessitates that said vaccine have a lasting effect of at least one year in preventing the contraction of the virus or disease it’s intended to fight. Because all of the COVID-19 shots thus far available have barely offered six months of protection, and even then not absolute, Red Voice Media has made the decision hereafter to no longer refer to the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson substances as vaccinations.
