On Monday morning, hundreds of anti-vaccine mandate activists gathered in downtown Los Angeles’ Grand Park to protest against the requirements being put in place by the city regarding the shot.
ABC7 reported that the protest, which was named the March for Freedom rally, was held the same day that Los Angeles’s proof of full COVID-19 vaccination mandate, one of the strictest in the U.S., went into effect. Many of the protesters could be seen holding American flags and signs slamming vaccination requirements during the demonstration.
“The Vaccine Mandate will cause the loss of a highly trained and skilled workforce in Los Angeles,” organizers of the rally said in a statement. “This will not only cause pain, suffering, and mental anguish to the employees that are to be terminated, it will also deny the protection, safety, and city services the residents of this great city have been afforded by their elected officials who have now created this new set of problems.”
Various government employees attending the rally said that they are ready to lose their jobs for refusing to comply with the city’s vaccine mandate, which gives them until December 18 to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Los Angeles firefighter Scott Tomlin spoke out to say that he is ready to lose his job “because I’m not prepared to lose my life over it.”
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week despite being vaccinated, has said that city employees who don’t get vaccinated by December 18 “should be prepared to lose their job.”

Organizers with Firefighters4Freedom had said before the protest that it would be attended by “local firefighters, law enforcement, parents, local Latino, and African-American community leaders and others who are being threatened by the vaccine mandate.”
Those attending the rally wore clothing designating their employment as being with the Los Angeles city and county fire departments, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and other government agencies.
Retired LAPD Detective Moses Castillo was one person who attended the rally.
“I’m here to show support for the men and women in law enforcement, the firefighters, those working in sanitation… who are here not so much against being vaccinated or the vaccine, but they’re against being forced to do so by our local government,” Castillo told KTLA.
John Knox of Firefighters 4 Freedom slammed the mandate as being unconstitutional.
“That’s an overreach on the government’s part because it’s not your right to tell me what I do with my health care, what I put into my body,” Knox said.
