Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of Gov. Gavin Newsom, came unglued late Sunday night on Twitter, where she posted and then deleted a message urging people to “stop hating.” This comes as her husband has been out of the public eye since canceling plans to attend last month’s climate summit in Scotland.
“It’s funny how certain folks can’t handle truth,” Siebel Newsom’s tweet read, according to Fox News. “When someone cancels something, maybe they’re just in the office working; maybe in their free time, they’re at home with their family, at their kids’ sports matches, or dining out with their wife. Please stop hating and get a life.”

Newsom has not made a public appearance since October 27, when he got his COVID-19 booster shot. Two days later, he pulled out of an overseas trip to the annual United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference in Scotland, citing “family obligations” but not elaborating on what these obligations were. While he said at the time that he would participate in the conference virtually, he did not end up doing that.
Daily Mail reported that Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalaki was sent to the climate conference in Newsom’s place, and she was quick to defend him.
“The governor has a young family and we should all be understanding, especially those of us who have been there,” said Kounalaki, who has two adult sons. Newsom has four children between the ages of 5 and 12.
Democratic state Sen. Bob Hertzberg, who attended the conference as well, said that Newsom was likely upset that he couldn’t go.
“He loves this issue, he cares about it a lot,” Hertzberg said. “It’s a big deal to him, and I’m sure he desperately wanted to go.”
“I don’t know where Gavin Newsom is and won’t speculate,” tweeted Kevin Kiley, a Republican assemblyman from California. “But it’s pretty strange for the Governor to disappear for 11 days without explanation.”
Newsom spokesperson Erin Mellon claimed last week that the governor will appear virtually at the U.N. climate conference, which ends on November 12, at some point this week.
“The Governor will participate in a couple events next week focused on global efforts to advance zero-emission vehicles and to move beyond oil,” she said last Thursday.
It remains to be seen if Newsom will actually follow through with that. Until he does, the public will be left to wonder where in the world is Gavin Newsom?
