All of the progressive “squad” members as well as Rep. Maxine Waters of California voted against a measure that easily passed 382 to 40 to condemn the Cuban government’s response to protests over the summer.
All 40 who voted against the resolution were Democrats.
Per Fox News “The resolution aimed to condemn the Cuban government’s response to a series of protests that occurred over the summer amid high prices, food shortages and the country’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.”
“In addition, the measure calls for the Cuban government to allow Cubans to peacefully protest on Nov. 15 during a planned demonstration over civil rights orchestrated by a group called Archipelago,” the report adds.
Democrat Jim McGovern justified voting against the measure by writing “I stand in solidarity with the people of Cuba & condemn the Cuban government’s excessive use of force against peaceful protesters. But I reject the false choice H. Res. 760 presented by not acknowledging the role the U.S. plays in contributing to the suffering of ordinary Cubans.”
