The Democrats used the COVID-19 pandemic to justify a slew of mandates including, masks, lockdowns, and even financial aid for businesses to stay afloat. But since the lockdowns have ended, many reports have come to light about corporations and businesses who took advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic and used it to fatten their own bank accounts. Most recently, the former President of Florida Democratic Black Caucus, 28-year-old Damara Holness, admitted to scamming the government and American people out of $300,000 in COVID relief aid.
Making headlines today, the Florida resident pled guilty to lying on a coronavirus relief loan application and fraudulently obtaining over $300,000 in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. Claiming the funds on behalf of Holness Consulting, Inc., a Florida company that Holness owned.
According to reports, Holness claimed on the application that her company employed 18 people and spent an average of $120,000 each month on payroll. Using fake forms to back up her story, Holness was approved and wired $300,000. It should be noted that her company actually has zero employees and no payroll whatsoever.
While there is no such thing as free money, once Holness received the funds, she spent the next several months crafting a story and a paper trail to back up her claims. She even made it appear as if her company was making regular payments to its employees when, in fact, it was all going to Holness.
The scheme grew more elaborate as Holness recruited friends and family to help her with the payroll checks. Around $1,000 a check, Holness would get a person to endorse and cash the check, allowing them to keep some of the money and pocketing the rest.
Not only does Holness face up to 20 years in prison if convicted, but it should also be noted that her scheme took place while she served as President of the Broward County Democratic Black Caucus.
