Donald Trump is furious after 11 Republican senators voted to step aside and allow the Democrats to pass a party line vote to raise the debt ceiling $480 billion.
The 45th President of the United States appeared on Fox News on Thursday and said that Senate Majority Leader and Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell should be removed from leadership for the role he played in allowing Democrats to raise the debt ceiling, among other issues, Fox News reported.
“The Republican Senate needs new leadership,” he said. “I’ve been saying it for a long time. Mitch is not the guy. He’s not the right guy. He’s not doing the job.”
“He gave [Sen. Charles Schumer of New York and his Democrats] a lifeline – it’s more than a lifeline, he gave them so much time to figure out what to do because they were in a big bind; they were unable to do anything,” he said.
“He had the weapon and he was able to use it. It’s a shame,” he said. “That’s not a good thing that happened today. He made a big mistake.”
He also went after the Joe Biden administration for its handling of the border crisis.
“Now it’s coming in at levels that we have never seen: three, four, five times more than we ever had coming in… There’s something wrong,” the 45th president said. “You wouldn’t believe you could even say this, but somebody doesn’t love our country.
“When they allow this to happen to our country, we have hundreds of thousands of people pouring in every two weeks,” he said.
“Some of the toughest people on earth are being dumped into the United States because they don’t want them. They don’t want to take care of them for the next 40 years,” he said. “These people that are the roughest prisoners, anywhere, are being dumped into the United States for us to take care of them. What are they doing? They are destroying our country.”
But it was the fact that Republicans allowed the debt ceiling to be raised in the way that they did that had him the most flustered.
The Republicans who voted to stop a filibuster were:
–Sens. John Barrasso of Wyoming
–Roy Blunt of Missouri
–Susan Collins of Maine
–John Cornyn of Texas
–Mitch McConnell of Kentucky
–Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia
–Lisa Murkowski of Alaska
–Rob Portman of Ohio
–Mike Rounds of South Dakota
–Richard Shelby of Alabama
–John Thune of South Dakota
Senate Majority Leader and York Sen. Charles Schumer used his speech to go after Republicans. Something that even Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin did not like.
“For the good of America’s families, for the good of our economy, Republicans must recognize in the future that they should approach fixing the debt limit in a bipartisan way,” the majority leader said. “We hope Republicans will join in enacting a long-term solution to the debt limit in December. We’re ready to work with them.”
“Yesterday, Senate Republicans finally realized that their obstruction was not going to work,” he said. “I thank, very much thank, my Democratic colleagues for our showing our unity in solving this Republican-manufactured crisis.”
“Today’s vote is proof positive that the debt limit can be addressed without going through the reconciliation process just as Democrats have been saying for months,” he said.
Manchin told Schumer that his speech was “f**king stupid,” Punchbowl News reported after Sen. Manchin was seen shaking his head during the speech and eventually walking out during Sen. Schumer’s speech.
Manchin tells us he didn’t like Schumer’s speech after the vote to break a filibuster on the debt ceiling. “I didn’t think it was appropriate at this time,” he said, arguing that “we need to de-weaponize” and stop “playing politics … That was not a way to take (frustration) out” pic.twitter.com/TsGDsMNAqK
