The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a challenge to a Mississippi law that bans nearly all abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy.
It will be the first abortion case to be argued before the Supreme Court since Justice Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed, potentially providing a pathway to challenging Roe v. Wade and allowing outright bans on abortion.
During a segment Monday night on CNN “Prime Time,” host Chris Cuomo had quite the meltdown while claiming that being pro-life is about racism and supporting Jim Crow.
Cuomo kicked off his terrifying segment by going after Justice Amy Coney Barrett by claiming she has betrayed women and “reproductive rights.”
“The first major test of a woman’s right, her liberty, controlling what happens to her body, since Trump got his third and final justice on the Supreme Court, has been set. Justice Amy Coney Barrett, her place on the bench as an outspoken advocate against reproductive rights. The next battle in the evolution of Roe V. Wade is upon us,” Cuomo said.
Cuomo then claimed “the Supreme Court of the United States that it will hear a case that could remove a woman’s right to control their own body.”
“Though, medical capabilities may be moving the point of viability well short of where it was assumed to be in 1973 with Roe V. Wade. So, you’d think some of the proponents of harsher measures would want the science involved,” Cuomo said.
Fredo then launched into his most despicable rant of the night.
“But again, it’s not about science or consensus. It’s about dividing lines, legislating to the far-right white-fright vote. Flooding the zone with 536 bills that abridge a woman’s right to control her own body in 46 states. It’s just like voting rights in one way. You see?” he smugly asked.
“And now we have a much more conservative group of judges. One of whom, Justice Amy Coney Barrett is an out-spoken opponent of any reproductive right in this regard. And if anyone is going to say, “no, she’s never said anything that bad.” She belongs to a group that was all about it,” he concluded.
Beyond Cuomo’s psychotic meltdown and abhorrent comments, it’s clear to see that he’s mad because Barrett will likely be the deciding vote on the abortion case.
The Mississippi ban included exceptions for medical emergencies or a “severe” fetal abnormality, but not cases of rape or incest.
A federal judge blocked the Mississippi law shortly after its passage in 2018, and the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld that decision last year, citing the precedent set by Roe.
The court will consider the heart of Roe by hearing arguments on whether all bans on abortion prior to the point of fetal viability are unconstitutional.
Barrett is staunchly against abortion and her background on the issue is what has liberals fuming.
