Dr. Anthony S. Fauci isn’t used to fielding tough questions, so he expressed his unhappiness after he was raked over the coals by Rand Paul on Tuesday.
The Kentucky Republican put Fauci on the spot over his funding of research at the Chinese lab where the coronavirus may have escaped from and where “gain of function” experiments took place; research that was banned under the Obama administration.
The case was made in an article by Nicholas Wade the virus likely did come from the lab and that Fauci who was in charge of disbursing grant money circumvented the moratorium by exploiting a loophole contained in a footnote to underwrite the dangerous research.
Paul seriously ruffled Fauci’s feathers with his adversarial line of questioning, something that he is not used to that is much different than the fawning treatment that he received from the media.
And it was to the media that the highest-paid bureaucrat in the country went crying to where he found a receptive ear in far-left host Gayle King on Thursday’s edition of CBS This Morning.

King popped the question; “Can I just ask about you and Rand Paul? Does your body tense up every time (off-screen laughter) … by body you know what I mean..” she said.
Fauci replied “You know, Gayle, I just don’t want to get into that tit-for-tat. I just don’t understand what the problem is with him,” he said. “But well, you know I’m just gonna do my job and he can do what he wants to do and we’ll see what happens.”
It was all fun and games and the usual coddling for Fauci who was back in his preferred environment feasting off of scripted softball questions by the adoring media; a stark contrast to the mauling that he received courtesy of Senator Paul.

Meanwhile, over on Fox News, Senator Paul continued to push the issue of Fauci’s work-around to fund the forbidden experiments at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The question as asked of Paul; “If this happened because of the NHI funding and that came from Dr. Fauci and then this spreads into a global pandemic and now he’s in charge of the response in the United States, the irony of that, what do you make of that?”
Paul answered; “It’s even worse than you make out,” he said. “The person that they appointed to investigate the lab from the WHO perspective is the guy who gave the money. So NIH gave the money to a group called EcoHealth.”
He continued, “The head of EcoHealth, a guy named Daszak, they got him to investigate whether Wuhan was doing anything inappropriate in their lab, but if they were, wouldn’t he then be culpable?” he said, “so doesn’t he have a self-interest in smoothing things over? I’m not saying he did cover things up but you wouldn’t appoint someone who’s in the line of the supply chain of giving the money to them because ultimately here’s the rub.”
Paul added; “I don’t know if it came from the lab. Nobody knows whether it came from the lab but who would be culpable?,” he said, “Dr. Fauci could be culpable for the entire pandemic.”
If and when Fauci appears before the Senate again, he’s going to have a lot more whining to do after Senator Paul gets through with him.
