On Wednesday night’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” George W. Bush discussed his relationship with former First Lady Michelle Obama.
In 2018, Bush and Obama made headlines when he was seen tossing her a mint at Senator John McCain’s funeral (R-AZ). The next year, at the funeral of his father, former President George H.W. Bush, the same thing happened.
“Here’s the deal. Bush told Jimmy Kimmel last night, “I go to a lot of funerals, and she goes to a lot of funerals.” “I’m either stuck next to her, or she’s always stuck next to me, because of protocol.”
“During the long-winded eulogies, I get a little antsy, so I start cracking a few jokes,” he said. “And she seems to find them amusing, so…”
Although Bush acknowledged that he does not have Obama’s telephone number, he also said that their relationship is greater than that of their spouses.
He joked about his wife, Laura Bush, and Obama’s husband, former President Barack Obama, not sitting next to each other at funerals.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Bush recently said in another interview that he was “shocked” by the reaction to his friendship with Obama in 2018.
Bush said of the public’s reaction, “It surprised me.” “As soon as we got in the car, Barbara or Jenna said, ‘Hey, you’re trending!’ The American people were taken aback by the fact that Michelle Obama and I were friends.”
Bush even gave her a mint at his father’s funeral, according to Obama.
According to ABC7, Obama said, “He has the presence of mind and the sense of humor to get me a mint.” “And he made a point of giving me the mint right then and there, and that is George Bush’s beauty.”
Despite their political differences, Obama claimed in 2019 that her “values are the same” as Bush’s.
“We disagreed on politics, but not on humanity,” she said. “When it comes to love and compassion, we don’t disagree,” Obama said. “I believe that is true for all of us; it’s just that we get caught up in our fear of the unknown.”
